What Exviera is and what it is used for
Exviera is an antiviral medicine used to treat adults with chronic (long-term) hepatitis C (an infectious disease that affects the liver caused by the hepatitis C virus). It contains the active substance dasablav.
Exviera works by stopping hepatitis C virus multiplication and new cell infections. Thus, the virus is cleansed from the blood after a certain amount of time.
Exviera tablets do not work on their own. They are always taken with other antiviral medicines containing ombisavir / paratreprevir / ritonavir. Some patients may also take an antiviral medicine called ribavirin. Your doctor will tell you which of these medicines to take with Exviera.
It is also important to read the leaflets of the other antiviral medicines you are taking with Exviera. If you have any questions about these medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
2. What you need to know before you take Exviera
Do not take Exviera:
If you are allergic to dasabivir or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
If you have severe liver disorders other than hepatitis C;
If you are taking any of the medicines listed in the following table. This is because serious or life-threatening reactions may occur when Exviera and ombisavir / paratrevid / ritonavir are taken together with these medicines. These medicines may affect the way Exviera and ombisavir / paratreprevir / ritonavir work, and Exviera and ombisavir / paratrevid / ritonavir can affect the way other medicines work.
Medicines that you should not take with Exviera at the same time
Drug or active substance Use of the drug
Carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital for epilepsy
Efavirenz, etravirine, nevirapine for HIV infection

Gemfibrozil to lower cholesterol and other fats in the blood
Mitotane for some tumors of the adrenal glands
Rifampicin for bacterial infections
St John's wort herbal medicine for anxiety and mild depression. This medicine is available without a prescription.
Do not take Exviera if any of the above apply to you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Exviera.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Exviera if you have a liver disease other than hepatitis C.
During treatment with Exviera and ombisavir / paratrevid / ritonavir, tell your doctor if you have the following symptoms, as they may indicate a worsening of liver problems:
Feel sick (you are nauseous), you are sick (vomiting) or have no appetite;
You notice yellow skin or eyes;
Your urine becomes darker than normal;
Confusion;
You notice a swelling in the stomach area.
If any of the above apply to you (or you are not sure) talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Exviera.
Blood tests
Your doctor will examine your blood before, during, and after treatment with Exviera. This is necessary in order for your doctor to:
Decide what other medicines you will take with Exviera and for how long;
Confirm whether treatment works and if you have no hepatitis C virus;
Check for the side effects of Exviera or other antiviral medicines your doctor has prescribed to take with Exviera (such as "ombivasir / paratreprevir / ritonavir" and "ribavirin").

The effects of Exviera during pregnancy are not known. Exviera should not be taken during pregnancy or in women of childbearing potential not using an effective method of contraception.

Additional precautions are needed if Exviera is taken concomitantly with ribavirin. Ribavirin can cause severe birth defects. If you become pregnant / your partner becomes pregnant during treatment with Exviera and ribavirin or in the following months, contact your doctor immediately.
