What is Ferrola and what it is used for?
Ferrola is recommended for the treatment of anemia caused by simultaneous iron and folate deficiency, as well as for the prevention of such a deficiency during pregnancy.
2. What you need to know before accepting Ferrol
Do not take Ferrola:
- if you are allergic to ferrosulphate or folic acid or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- if you have anemia that results from a vitamin B12 deficiency, as it requires another treatment.
- if you know you suffer from other diseases such as small bowel obstruction or intestinal inflammation (diverticulitis), congenital iron storage problems (hemochromatosis).
- if blood has been transfused, you have been given an iron-containing injection, or have taken a medicine that contains iron.
- if you have been treated with heavy metal poisoning.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Ferrol.
Children and adolescents
The use of this medicine is not recommended in children under 12 years of age.
Take special care when using Ferrol
If you take the following medicines: antibiotics, such as tetracyclines, quinolones, penicillamine (heavy metal poisoning, arthritis); medicines to treat dyspepsia; zinc products; trientine (in Wilson's disease); as Ferrola can significantly reduce their effects. Other medicines and Ferrol
Do not take Ferrola if you are given an iron-containing injection or have taken an iron-containing medicine. Do not take Ferrol if you are being treated with heavy metal poisoning.
Observe the following instructions, otherwise the indicated medicines will not work for you:

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Ferrola with food and beverages
Ferrola should be given 1 hour before or 2 hours after the following foods and beverages: tea, coffee, eggs, milk and dairy products, black bread and cereals, dietary fiber. Otherwise, it will not have the expected effect.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor before taking this medicine.
Ferrol is recommended as an addition of iron and folic acid in pregnant women and for the prevention of anemia caused by iron and folate deficiency in pregnancy.
Folic acid passes into breast milk, so you should consult your doctor.
Driving and using machines
It does not affect the ability to drive and use machines.
Important information about some of Ferrol's ingredients
Ferrol contains 28 mg of lactose (lactose). If you are sensitive to lactose (lactose intolerance), this should be taken into account.
3. How to take Ferrol
Always take this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as your doctor has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose is:
If your doctor has not prescribed you otherwise, the usual dose is 3 x 1 or 2 tablets a day. The tablets should be taken before meals, whole, without chewing.
If you take more Ferrol than you should
If you have accidentally taken more than your daily Ferola dose, seek medical advice immediately. If a child has accidentally swallowed this medicine, please consult a doctor urgently.
If you have forgotten to accept Ferrol
Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose as you will be at risk of overdosing.
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
Very common (may affect more than 1 in 10 patients):
During treatment with Ferrola, faeces may become darker. This is not important unless you have a stool test for occult bleeding. In this case, please tell your doctor that you are taking Ferrolactin as this may affect the test results.
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 patients):
Ferolar can cause gastrointestinal disorders such as lack of appetite, feeling of satiety, gastrointestinal irritation, stomach acid, belching, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or discomfort, diarrhea and constipation.
Nervous system disorders
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 patients):
Ferrola can cause sleep disturbances
How to Store the Ferrola
This medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions.
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not dispose of medicines in the sewage system or in the household waste container. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer use. These measures will help to protect the environment.

What Ferrol contains
- The active substances are: 114 mg (= 37 mg Fe) ferrous sulphate, dried and 0.8 mg folic acid.
- The other ingredients are: ascorbic acid, corn starch, maltodextrin, sodium starch glycolate (type A), calcium stearate, lactose monohydrate 2.8 mg / tablet, cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, silica, anhydrous, sucrose, talc, titanium dioxide, (4000, 6000), methacrylic acid - ethylacrylate copolymer (1: 1), sodium hydroxide, simethicone emulsion, diethyl phthalate, propylene glycol, siole red (E172), calcium carbonate, magnesium stearate, hypromellose (viscosity type 6pP and 5pP) grayish brown (E172).

Round, biconvex, red-brown, gastro-resistant tablets.
Packed in transparent PVC / PE / PVdC / Al / paper blister packs of 20, 50 and 100 gastro-resistant tablets.
